400-11 Eligibility to Submit Proposals for Extramural Funds (PI Status)
I. Purpose
This policy defines eligibility to submit proposals for extramural funds.
II. Definitions
None provided.
III. Policy
Only individuals holding principal investigator status may submit funding proposals to extramural sponsors. University policy automatically confers principal investigator status on faculty who are salaried at 50% or more of full-time in the ladder ranks, in-residence, adjunct, clinical, or research series, to appointees in the librarian series, and to emeritus professors or associate professors, subject to the Chancellor's decision that adequate and appropriate space is available.
Appointees at less than 50% of full-time or in other title series, but who hold appropriate academic or professional credentials, may be granted principal investigator status by exception by submitting a Request for Principal Investigator Status: Waiver for Exemption from University Policy, endorsed by the department chair and dean, to the Vice Chancellor--Academic Affairs.
