A. Faculty may not acquire animals for use in any UCSF related project until they have submitted a protocol to
IACUC, which must approve the conditions under which the animals will be used.
B. The single exception to this policy is for projects funded through UCSF in which the animal work will be performed entirely at another institution that has filed an Assurance on the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals with the Public Health Service, and that has established an institutional animal care and use committee for reviewing and approving protocols and for reviewing the animal care and use program at that site. Approval of animal use protocols must come from that institution's institutional animal care and use committee. (Examples of other
such sites include the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, other UC campuses, and other
research such sites such as Stanford University.)
